Monday Night Lights

For the past couple of months, Mike Holmes and Michael Miller have hosted a feature on Facebook called Monday Night Lights. Each Monday evening in Feb and March, a couple of hybridizers share their programs. To give it a sense of "nowness", the presentation only stays on the site for a week and then is gone forever. BUT, there is now a way to see some of them longer than that. A wonderful Russian woman who is passionate about daylilies wanted others she knew in Russia to see the presentations, but many were reluctant to become members of Facebook. So she has posted any presentations that she has received from the hybridizers on a local daylily website. Mine is at  http://daylilymarvel.ru/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=287   Below is a sample of one of the "slides" that was in my presentation. If you enter it via google chrome, and click on the little blue boxes in the upper right hand corner of the header, google will translate her comments into English. Perhaps you can wander around the site and see what they are up to in Russia.

Scapes coming in the greenhouse, so it won't be long before I have some blooms to show:-)

Working on Size

A new look for me. Seedling 2713. A 10" saturated beauty out of Not Guilty x Flying Purple People Eater. 36". 4-way. Planted outside as a small single fan June 2013. Looking forward to seeing this in a clump!
This next picture is what seedling 2713 looked like in the greenhouse. Shorter and no scape and only 7" inside. Color more cranberry and not as velvety. I love it when things are better outside than inside. Almost always the case with dormants.
This is seedling 35613, seen for the first time this morning. Out of a complicated seedling x Flying Purple People Eater. 10", 36" 2-5 way.
One I noticed for the first time a week ago - probably since it is now a big clump - is dormant seedling 3009 - an older one. About 36" with almost a 10" flower out of a dormant seedling (which includes Heartbeat of Heaven, Julie Newmar, etc) x Bali Watercolor. Will move it out of the gravel pit into the main garden to see if I can get a bit more budcount out of it, but will likely just end up as decoration.
Below is what it looked like when it first bloomed May 2009 in the greenhouse. A big difference in form.

Repeat the Sounding Joy kids

Seedling 35413. Planted outside as a small seedling last June and this summer it has 5 way branching with instant rebloom. It is out of Repeat the Sounding Joy x sdlg (where 50% of the sdlg's genetics are All Things to All Men. ATTAM has Repeat as its pod parent, so lots of line breeding here)
Pictured below (2 different days) is 35113 - out of All Things to All Men (which is out of Repeat the Sounding Joy) and God Save the Queen. Note the sharky edge, but not much of a scape yet. Crossing my fingers since it was just planted last summer.

Not Guilty kids showing their stuff:-)

Not Guilty has been producing some marvelous hardy kids with rich saturated color and good branching. All pictures below are outside photos. This is 35013, a 6.5" beauty which is 50% Not Guilty genetics and 38% All Things to All Men.

This is 0412, which is 25% Not Guilty and also includes Skin on My Teeth, Faith that Moves Mountains, Gnashing of Teeth, Chariot of Clouds, etc.

This is 48612, which is 50% Red Friday and 25% Not Guilty.

0512 isn't showing much of a scape, but love the color. 25% Not Guilty.

Thought I would add this at the end as it has been performing well on a lovely scape. 25% Cosmic Struggle and 25% 52708. Seedling 1613.

Other nice blooms from today

This is 5714 (first picture) - out of 32012 (2nd picture - includes All Things to All Men and Reach for the Sky, etc.) and 8912 (3rd picture - out of 27410 and 52708)

The next two are 4714 (out of 5012 x 31312) and 5314 (out of 5012 and 37312). They share the same pollen parent 5012, which is the bottom picture.
